    Professional Carpet Care FAQ

Why Contractors vs Employees Matters ?

There is a dirty little secret in the Auckland carpet cleaning industry: many companies are actually just booking agencies farming your job out to the lowest-bidding sub-contractor. You never really know who is turning up at your door or what kind of equipment they are using.

At Klever, we have a strict zero-contractor policy. When you book with us, you get our actual employees—well-paid, highly valued Kiwi technicians like Matt, Nadine, and Che. Every team member is fully insured, IICRC qualified, and personally trained by me to meet our obsessive standards. We take care of our team so they can take care of your home, giving you total peace of mind and a guaranteed 5-star result every single time.

What Carpet Cleaning Method Is Best ?

Carpet manufacturers recommend steam cleaning or the "hot water extraction" method of carpet cleaning. It uses water that’s a few degrees below boiling point. This heat is how we break apart dirt and grease from the carpet fiber to then be extracted with our powerful vacuum.

Some cleaners promote encapsulation cleaning. This method is good for maintenance cleans and is popular in commercial spaces requiring minimal down time but for plush residential carpet this isn't the right approach. it doesn't go deep and can leave more cleaning residues behind which isn't ideal.

The other thing to watch out for is carpet cleaners with portable machines.  If you're in an apartment up an elevator it's the only choice, but wherever possible, getting a professional with a truck mount is the far better option

Truck-mounted machines are the only machines with the power to reach deep into the carpet pile and extract maximum dirt and whisk away left over moisture. This leaves your carpet cleaner and dryer than little portable machines.

How Long Does Carpet Cleaning Take ?

There are many different factors that determine how long the job will take. The size of the home, the type of carpet and it's condition, the ease of access for equipment and even the layout and furniture placement.  Weather, wind, and the skills of the carpet cleaner’s doing the job also make a real difference.

On Average, carpet cleaning for most homes takes around 2 hours. Dirtier carpet or large homes usually take longer. Most carpet dries within 4-6 hours. Old carpet, wool and thick pile carpet can take up to 8 hours.
Wet or cold weather generally increases drying times of your carpet by only 25%.

How Long Does It Take For Carpet To Dry ?

If the job is done PROPERLY, your carpet should dry in 4-8 hours even on a regular winter's day in Auckland. We use a "4-stroke cleaning method" by doing 1 pass with steam activated and then 2 more passes without steam and combining this with a tight overlap, it means every inch of carpet gets cleaned 2 times and dried 3 times. Done with our industrial truck-mounted vacuums, we pull out maximum moisture, leaving you with a deeper clean that dries faster than traditional steam methods. Other factors determine the exact drying time. Synthetic carpet drys faster than wool carpet, but only by 2-3 hours and weather and air-flow play a big role too. On a nice day, your carpets should be dry by night fall. During rain or in winter months drying times are about 20% longer, which is really only a few hours, so either way your carpet will be dry the same day it's cleaned.

What's The Cost Of Carpet Cleaning ?

The cost of carpet cleaning in Auckland can vary greatly. The most important factor in carpet cleaning prices is the quality of the service you choose.  "Cheap" carpet cleaner companies use low powered portable machines with warm water and weak suction. The best carpet cleaners use bigger and more powerful truck-mounted machines with water close to 100 degrees.

The difference in prices can be mostly explained by levels of training and insurance, the amount invested in premium tools and equipment and the level of care and attention to detail of the technician.

Klever use all-inclusive and transparent flat-rate pricing. Meaning if you have a 4 bed house, you'll pay the same as someone else who has a 4 bed house.

NOTE: 95% of jobs are done at the flat-rate price we quote over the phone.  On the day, our technician will examine your carpet with you and if needed, we will quote for any serious stains or previously unidentified issues before commencing work.

In case you're wondering, Klever's carpet cleaning prices start at $199.

What Happens After You Book Carpet Cleaning

While many carpet cleaners arrive, clean and leave, never to be heard from again, Klever is different. Once you book with us you'll instantly receive a booking confirmation via text and email. It outlines all the booking details and lets you save it directly in your phone calendar.

36 hours before your appointment we send another message with a reminder and clear preparation instructions to make your clean go as smooth as possible so you can maximise the value you get on the day.

When we're on our way, you get a heads-up that your technician is on approach so you can move any vehicles if needed and be ready for their arrival.

Upon greeting you, the Klever technician will provide you with our trademark Customer Care Card which details our 6-step cleaning process, answers FAQ's and prepares you for after the job is done.

The following day we check-in and make sure everything has been to your satisfaction and the results were what you expected (or better!).

If everything goes well, we schedule reminder for you again in 12 months and 18 months, just to mention that it might be worth checking your carpet and seeing if it is due for another clean.

Can I get Old Stains Out Of Carpet ?

Early treatment of stains is an absolute must.  If you wait weeks or months to treat difficult stain types, the chances of total success reduce more and more with each passing day. What was a simple, easy-to-fix mishap, can become a permanent feature of your lounge room carpet. The moral of the story is don't wait to get the experts in If you want your carpet to look great and last a long time.

Most clients are amazed at what can be removed from their carpet IF they call in professionals quickly. Blood, feces, urine, vomit, red wine, ink, gum, kids play doh, makeup etc. can all usually all be removed with 100% success and leave your carpets looking like nothing ever happened.

Can I Steam Clean Pet Urine ?

Short answer, No.  Pet urine stains on carpet require specialised skills, chemicals and expertise to be removed properly. Pet urine contains Phosphorus, Uric acid, & other compounds called mercaptans that nature designed to smell strongly and stay in place for the pet to mark its territory with. You are fighting 10,000 years of feline & canine evolution, which is often a losing battle!

Without very specific enzymes and oxidizers being used, standard steam cleaning of pet urine stains will likely "re-activate" the smell, making it worse. It can also lock in any visible marks, and make fixing the problem nearly impossible for the experts.

WARNING: Don't look for low cost solutions when it comes to urine issues. If someone offers to fix pet urine problems for less than $250 I would be very suspicious as to the quality of work you're about to receive.

Can Your Technicians Remove Stains ?

YES! Our carpet technicians carry a broad range of specialised chemicals for treating various types of stains. We can remove, coffee, tea, blood, urine, food, grease and more. We will work until the stain is gone. We do have to mention that some things just don't come out no matter what we try, but we can tell you if this is the case for you.

Checking Online Reviews Is A Must

Some people think all carpet cleaners are created equal and focus on finding the cheapest price. This is a recipe for disaster!  Our industry is largely unregulated which invites unskilled, uninsured, fly by night operators that can easily do a lot of harm to your home and carpet.

Some of the red flags to watch out for: If a carpet cleaner has bad or no online reviews then that should be a massive red flag. It's actually very hard to run a legitimate business in Auckland and have no online platform for people to review you. This means that it takes a deliberate effort on the part of business owners to hide the places they could be reviewed. If you hire a carpet technician that doesn't want their previous customers talking about the service they provided, you're asking for trouble, it's that simple.

The same goes for bad reviews, most customers will only leave a bad review once they have tried to resolve the problem with the business and failed.  At Klever, we follow specific systems and procedures that go above and beyond to deliver a customer experience that is consistently amazing and simply unrivalled. This is how we gained our 5-Star reputation across all review sites including Google, TradeMe, Facebook, Localist and others.

How Often Should I Get Carpets Cleaned ?

A quality modern carpet should last 15-25 years before it starts looking worn out and in need of replacement. New manufacturing standards and processes produce a strong, hard wearing product that should last a very long time.

But, there's catch! It must be properly maintained to extend it's life this far. You see, when carpet is made, it comes out a little bit acidic on the pH scale. This is what makes new carpet so fluffy, nice to walk on, and stain resistant. Unfortunately, as we live our day to day lives in the home, cooking vapors, dust, bacteria and pollens drift around and settle on the carpet. This slowly makes your carpet more and more alkaline. As the carpet becomes alkaline it loses it's softness and bounce, and becomes matted and easier to stain.

Professional carpet cleaning fixes this issue by firstly removing the contaminants causing the alkaline shift and simultaneously moving the carpet back to its more acidic state leaving it fluffy and more resistant to staining, thus extending its life and keeping it looking great for years to come.

Can I Use Vinegar & Baking Soda On Carpet ?

Every single week we get calls from home owners who have used vinegar and/or baking soda to try and fix stains on their carpet and have usually made things a lot worse in the process. The advice to do this is not coming from carpet experts, and doesn't even account for the difference between wool & synthetic carpets. Professionals can fix most stains at a reasonable price, but once you put vinegar & baking soda on it, things get a lot more difficult (if not impossible) to rectify.
